My philosophy
I believe in positive reinforcement, rewarding the good choices over the bad choices. It has been proven that being proactive and positive in shaping a child’s behavior is much more effective then providing that child with punitive consequences. Systems, procedures and consistency are essential in every classroom. Children want structure and boundaries. Knowing what is coming next, what the consequences are and what he/she has to do in order to get what they want helps decrease anxiety and frustration, and increases productivity, positive feelings, and success. All things we do in the classroom can be translated and changed to fit any home situation. It is very difficult to make progress in any area without controlling behavior first. With that said, someone who feels good about themselves. And feels secure is much more inclined to be productive, compliant, and can make more progress that someone who does not. |
ClassDojo is a program which allows teachers to track students’ behaviors (positive AND negative) easily and efficiently. The program is based on points, and students can be given positive points for things like being on task, being respectful, participating, or working hard. On the other hand, points can be taken away if students are off task, talking out, or unprepared (negatives for class dojo are very rare pleas see below).
How it works After students have been added to the system, there is a student access code we will give to each student so that they can log on to the website. On the site, they are able to see how many points they have, which positive behaviors were noted, and which negative behaviors they need to work on. Weekly, students will be able to “cash in” on their points for different prizes and coupons. (The more they save the better the prize). One of the greatest features of ClassDojo is that it allows us to send parents text messages and photos. All you need to do is use the parent access code to get signed up. Our hope is that this will help you better understand the progress of your student’s behavior on a week-to-week basis. Please contact me if you have any questions! Please understand my philosophy is to give students more positive then negative, and if a student is given a negative consequence then it will be at a must need basis. Students will have 2 warnings before they get a consequence 3 warnings equals a reflection sheet which students will complete, teacher will speak to student about the behavior, and child will bring home to be signed so that you may talk to him/her about their behavior. |
